NEM Calculator
The NEM calculator is an online tool that conveniently calculates energy savings as a result of solar PV installation and use.
Net Energy Metering (NEM) is a program initiated by the government, first in 2016, as means to encourage domestic homeowners and entities to utilize solar energy resources through solar photovoltaic (PV) installations. In 2019, the first NEM initiative became updated with the 1:1 offset arrangement in transporting excess energy back to the grid system. This second version became the NEM 2.0.
Upon the full subscription of the first-ever NEM (including its 2019 iteration, which is NEM 2.0) in December 2020, the NEM 3.0 was introduced in December 2020, and is scheduled to run from the year 2021 to 2023. The NEM 3.0 comes with a fresh round of 500 MW quota allocation.
How do I use the NEM Calculator?
Firstly, using the NEM calculator requires an input of the specific Tariff Group to which the subscriber falls under, whether it’s Domestic, Commercial, Industrial, or Agricultural. Within each Tariff Group, moreover, subscribers are instructed to choose the specific Building Type relevant to the tariff group.
It is also necessary to input the Average Electricity Bill Monthly or (RM) as means to conveniently compare solar PV expenses against grid electricity utilisation. An option for purchase mode will also be needed, whether it’s Outright Purchase or Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
